In this product sheet, the bronze mushrooms are unique pieces created in foundry sand, in a traditional style. These creations are made of solid bronze, up to 4 cm high.

All creations are available custom-made by "la forge des plaines" and can be quoted, or can be made during a workshop with Quentin from "la forge des plaines".

Become the artisan of your own creations!

Green sand casting is the oldest technique. Foundry sand is composed of a mixture of refractory sand (silica) and a binder (bentonite) that is moistened and kneaded in a grinder. This mixture will be used to design single-use molds. The part used for reproduction is called the master model. It can be made of wood, resin, or metal. The model will be slightly larger than the desired finished piece, to account for the shrinkage of the cast metal during cooling.

The model will be placed halfway into a metal flask filled with sand compacted with a rammer. A second flask prepared in the same way will cover the first to conform to the shape of the piece. The model will then be

removed, grooves will be dug in the sand and will serve to feed the model's impression during casting.

Once the mold is made, casting can begin. Molten bronze (1050°C) is ladled from the crucible and poured into the mold. The casting must be done at a regular speed, adapted to the desired piece.

Shake-out consists of demolding the cast piece by breaking the sand mold. The latter will be manufactured repeatedly for each new creation.
